Are there two different kinds of Golden Retriever?
No, ... breeders sometimes refer to the "English" vs the "American" type dog. The English varies from 'creme' color to 'mid-gold' , is heavier boned and a little less tall or lanky. This dog is blocky and square in head and muzzle. Think of a Labrador, but with longer hair and more laid back temperament! If you are looking for a very laid back, mild tempered pet...then the English creme is for you.
The ideal American Golden is athletic, and well balanced. It is a symmetrical, powerful, and active dog. An American Golden is less stocky and lankier than a British. It is a bit taller, softer in the head and muzzle, more agile and varies from 'mid-gold' to 'copper' color, but is never 'creme'.
Below are some pictures of our creme's.
